The WORA Player Development Kickstart Program is geared towards players in our Regional program who want to improve on their core ringette skills - checking, stabbing, shooting, gameplay, cycling the net, and positioning. We will aim to have goalies attend each session for shooting practice, and although we do skating for warm-ups and gameplay, we do not do power skating or edgeworks.
This program is run in addition to your team's practices and is focused solely on ringette skill development.
The program is available for players registered in FUN3, U12, U14 and U16 Regional levels.
Last season was our first year running the program with over 70+ registrants, which was amazing to see on the ice. To achieve the goals of our program, we will be splitting the novice (FUN3 / U12) and senior (U14 / U16) groups into separate nights so players get consistent repetition and feedback from coaches on the ice.
Sam Banning and Greg Thomas will be returning this year, joined by Amy Skillen - all with competitive and Regional coaching/playing experience.
To register, visit Ramp Registrations. The kickstart program is available under "Camps and Clinics".
The program will be limited to 35 players at the FUN3/U12 level and 35 players at the U14/U16 level.
The program will run Thursday evenings, at CRC, for 9 - 1 hour sessions from October to March.
Program cost: $75
Each session will focus on 3 aspects of Ringette gameplay - Shooting (placement, different types), Ring Possession (getting, maintaining, protecting) and Gameplay (positioning, awareness, etc). As there are a number of different age groups that will be on the ice, our goal will be to focus on skills tailored to that group's cohort.
Once we have the group(s) in place, we will do our best to schedule sessions around players practice and game schedules, however each team attends different tournaments or has different events going on throughout the season that could cause a conflict.
